Matthew D. Westerman
Matthew D. Westerman is partner of Shankman, Leone & Westerman, P.A. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, but has lived most of his life in Central Florida.
Mr. Westerman received his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida in 1994 (B.A. in Psychology) and is a graduate of Stetson University College of Law (J.D., 1999, Magna Cum Lade). Mr. Westerman was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1999 and is licensed to practice before all Florida State Courts, as well as the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida.
Mr. Westerman represents clients in virtually all types of labor and employment matters. He has experience defending corporations in sexual harassment, employment discrimination, retaliation and wage-hour litigation matters, and he represents clients before federal, state and local administrative agencies. He assist companies with day-to-day employee relations issues and provides guidence on regulatory compliance.
In addition to his employment law practice, Mr. Westerman represents both businesses and indiviuals in immigration and naturalization matters. For businesses, his services include: nonimmigrant visa strategy and planning, visa preparation and filing, green card and labor certification processing, immigration compliance training, and employee verification training. For indiviuals and families, Mr. Westerman represents clients before the USCIS in immigrant (green card) and non-immigrant visa matters and assists them with the naturalization process.
Mr. Westerman is a member of the Florida Bar, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the St. Petersburg Bar Association, as well as the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Florida Bar. He is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Suncoast Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management.
